Vintage Nudist? Or Joan Blondell Streaking?
Normally I’d associate a pretty outdoor nude of this vintage with a nudist camp setting, or at least with crypto-porn wearing that camouflage. But the brilliant smile while trying to balance on indoor shoes, the fully dressed men laughing in the background, and the bulky square equipment case one of them is carrying, make me think “model” rather than genuine nudist:
Update: Thanks to commenter Ssspender for providing a model ID (Joan Blondell) and a link to a much clearer zoom crop of the same image, from a BBS file image that backs up his model ID:

She is so pretty! Heh, I’m trying to picture her with clothes on like an imaginary vintage paper doll. I would love to look like that though.
Ahh, the age when curvy universally meant sexy. I want those days back.
:-D
Wow…she really is nicely curvy. I wonder if the image is retouched, as was so common back then, or if she really was shaved smooth “down there”. I know it’s not a really new phenomenon…but unusual to see, nonetheless.
Thanks for the pic!

This is a famous photo of Joan Blondell, taken one day when she “streaked” on the set.
OMG! Actual curves! *drool*
My lady has similiar curves, and I regularly have to reassure her of my attraction to them. Seems to be working though :D Wish there were more well-curved women in popular media for those with cuvy bodies to model themselves on.
Joan Blondell is a Hollywood actress who got her start in the 30’s. She usually played the best friend to the star. http://www.imdb...00951
Thanks for the props.
I was wondering if she was more of what they would have called *hard core* back then since she is shaved. Beautiful curves, beautiful woman.
Joan Blondell! My jaw dropped. I’m not sure what the expression ‘hard core’ would have to do with her. She was a major movie character actress even posthumously. They just had her watermark film ‘Gold Diggers of 1933’ on TMC a few nights ago. Wish I’d seen it with that image in my mind. I remember her first from ‘Here come the Brides’ with Bobby Sherman. A TV show from the early sixties. I’m sure I watched every episode but I can’t for the life of me even remember what its premise was (pacific northwest in the 19th century, an extension of ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ I’d guess…). I’m surprised this never showed up in Kenneth Angers ‘Hollywood Babylon’.
I’ve got an image of Joan Blondell sitting in a bath with a scrubbing brush on her back. It’s risque, but while she’s obviously topless, no nipples. The quality suggests a studio publicity shot. We forget just how risque pre-Code movies were (cf, Red Dust). I love old movies and I’m a fan of Joan, nice to see her out and about.
Astonishing! I commented above on how unusual it seemed for her to be shaved considering the ’30s time frame, and then I find out it’s a very popular, well-regarded actress. She was a *very big deal* in her day, and this makes me wonder just how sanitized the lives of all the other actors and actresses of her era have been.
Gotta love those curves and wow, that closeup shows an amazingly shaved mound.
I know where this photo was taken. I also know who the guys in the backround are. It may be Joan Blondell but it wasn’t on a movie set.
So, if you know these things…

If she knew she was going to streak, then maybe she prepared by shaving — or maybe she is a woman who does not have much hair down there — had a gf once whose hair would not show up on an old grainy photo.
Just how sure are we that this is Joan Blondell? Seems like the gal in the photo is prettier than Joan. BTW, I am a Blondell fan.
Is it me or do women of that era have the most gorgeously perfect to die for figures?
All valleys and mountains.
Why a lot of girls today want to starve themselves to a size zero is beyond me.
I remembering hearing that many actresses of that era had to shave in case something showed through their underwear, especially in wet scenes.
I had a friend who was a film cutter and had worked with the guy who took this picture.
He said that at a party after finishing a film, Joan left the party & he saw her headingh for the potty. He ran & got his 4X5 camera.
My friend must have been a very good friend of the photographer because he had some 4×5 contact prints. I bought one.
My wife made some interesting comments about the barber.
I thought I recognized that photo when I first saw it. It was on the net and perhaps elsewhere, (nudie mag?) many years ago. In the comment that accompanied the picture the writer claimed that she was am exibitionist and enjoyed exposing herself. It claimed that she walked on the sets nude.
Well … in my opinion … it’s not THE Joan Blondell. My money would have to say it’s a very young Tempest Storm. Here is Joan Blondell (at right) in a bra at age 25 in Night Nurse (1931): http://zoopraxi...4.jpg. It’s certainly difficult to reconcile the Night Nurse stills with the above image (and others relating to the above). And here would be Tempest Storm: http://sanvonzo...storm.
THIS WA NOT A GRAINY PICTURE. IT WAS ACONTCT PRINT FROM A 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 press camera.
i bought one print from a guy who got them from a a friend who worked at one of themovie studios.
Apparently they were having a party & she had to go to the bathroom.
, The guy had gotten his camera & caught her on the way back to theparty.
I had no way of telling if story was true, but the guy told me a few stories abou his experiences in a major film studio
i was woking t the Marqardt aircrat Company at the time
At one time I hhad a conact print of thi picture. It was taken by a photograr
usn a 4″x5′ press camera…One of the men i worked with broght in a bunch of prints which he sold (hesold the very quicly) It was t a prty where they we celibrating, & had to pee The photographer saw her going’& hoping she’d returrn got a camera. The print I had was clearly showng wokmen behid. When i brought this home, my wife aked me “What happened to the barber ?” The picture was taken in the 1950s I have a good memory for my age of 96.
It’s not Joan Blondell, it also isn’t Temptest Storm. Blondell was active in the 30s, this photo has a very 50s vibe. Plus this model has a mole on her cheek. Blondell doesn’t have one. I used to have this models actual name and it kills me that I can’t find it.
It’s probably Ruth Egnor aka Peg. She was a model in the 1950s.
This Photo has caused a bit of an internet mud slinging match on some sites. No way is this Joan Blondell, and quite a lot of this young womans photos have been misidentified as Joan and I think this shot may have been a, if not the, start of it. The car behind the lady in question (top left corner for those who can’t find it) is of obvious late 40’s design. Joan was born in 1906. By the time that car was built Joan Blondell was in her 40’s with 3 children. this woman is not, and clearly hasn’t children. This is Dagmar, (not to be mistaken for Virginia Egnor of 1950 TV show Dagmars Canteen) AKA Peg in some publications. She posed for E’Cole D’Art in the late 40’s and early 50’s, among others.
We now have four different proposed identifications for this model, and everybody with a proposal is rather certain they are correct. All y’all can’t all be right at the same time!
Bacchus is right in saying we can’t all be right, and like everyone else I’m sure I got it right… untill I’m proven otherwise. I’m a pre-code movie fan, and by extension a Joan Blondell fan. I have a good collection of promo pics and the like and a simple comparison tells me who it’s not. I’ve spent a lot of hours trying to find who this woman actually is but, I admit, have very little information to provide. I do have a photo of a set of her titled ‘Dagmar Strips’ compiled from individual photos. If anyone has any information or details I would gladly welcome them. But no way was Joan built like that.
I say this IS Joan Blondell. It was identified as such back in the late 60s, when I first saw it. Looks like her face and hair – color and cut. Her breasts were similarly large and pert, with similar areolas (size and color) and nipples. Her waste to hips ratio was similar, and the car in the background could be mid to late 30s, making the model in her early 30s, as she looks. There are many nude pics of her online from this era, and they look very similar, especially the breasts, nipples, face and hair. And I know her personality was very bawdy and confident from her 40s on (I don’t know about her earlier persona) which would fit the personality of a confident young exhibitionist like this model. I’m convinced it’s her, until proven otherwise.
She’s beautiful and if you watch her on film a real
shining light in a room with other actors and actresses.
I’ll bet she was a lot of fun to be around (And I don’t mean horizontal fun) Even though I’m sure she had that base covered as well. Gorgeous and what a great smile.
That is obviously not Joan Blondell. Joan Blondell had a nice figure but was not THAT busty. Search for “Dagmar vintage nudist” and you will find several pictures of this woman. Even if you accept that Joan Blondell went streaking on a film set one day, and you accept that someone in the 1930s just happened to have a camera at the ready and catch it, an A-list actress like Blondell wouldn’t have had a whole portfolio of nudes.
I first saw this photo in a late 80’s issue of “Celebrity Skin” magazine I picked up lying around somewhere in the mid 90s….
This is not Joan Blondell but it is a beautiful photo and as someone else wrote above it seems to be a vintage nude model named Dagmar. Joan found success pretty early and wouldn’t have had to pose nude for sustenance money like many eventual stars have done…
Joan’s mons pubis is so much too see.She was a great actress and I saw only a few of her movies.
I miss that kind of beauty. Today can match it.
This young lady is known by the name paytone tone, nothing on the ‘net but ebay has 6 or 7 photos of her, she is drop dead gorgeous, google her name at ebay and good reading.
I first saw this photo in the Australian Magazine Australian Post in the early 1960’s. I definitely identified her as Joan Blondell. Considering that at that time nudist magazines would air brush out any pubic hair to actually see her with no hair but fully revealed was something else, especially in a magazine that was on sale to the general public with no restrictions on a weekly basis. No big deal about it…. it was just a photo in the magazine with a caption but then we had nudity on tv by 1972 including full frontal female nudity & the show included a gay relationship between two males at a time when homosexuality was still illegal. Maybe we were just ahead of the rest of the world eh.
Thanks, Keith. I really appreciate this sort of personal testimony about vintage stuff where the attribution trail has gone cold.
