Helen Mirren’s Mom Meets Caligula
I was amused to see this NYT interview in which actress Helen Mirren talks about taking her mother to a day of shooting for the movie Caligula:
No, it wasn’t in the orgy scene. But you know, when we were doing “Caligula,” it was very rare that anybody had any clothes on. My mum was just great – she’d just sit there surrounded by all these naked extras or people wearing just little wisps of something or other and just chat away with everyone. That was a great quality my mum had.

Sigh. Even now, I’d be more than happy to sit on the set and watch Helen Mirren walk around naked. The woman is gorgeous.
After watching her first interview with Parkinson, I realised he’s a middle of the road hack who doesn’t know how to handle actual controversy, at least with attractive women. I reckon he flubbed the first Mirren interview, and he Really badly stuffed up the Meg Ryan interview when he told her to keep on doing rom-coms because that was how she got famous. Mirren is a work of art and I’ll give a long hard look at all of her work with an eye to seeing it (unless it’s also got Russel Brand in it. He was good in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but that script Called for him to be a selfish arsehole).
There ain’t any new Helen Mirren’s on the horizon. She could hot up the screen and not over play it.
