Liberty And Justice: I Ship Them
This artwork appears all over the web in ten thousand uncredited places. It’s been circulating so long in so many different forms that it was extremely hard to track down a credit. But at such tasks your humble narrator excels, and I persevered until successful: according to The Village Voice in 2004, it’s artwork by Mirko Ilic.

The image is great but I ended up reading the 10+ year old piece it came from. It’s got me kind of sad that things probably have only gotten so much better for that family. Sure, they’re likely married now and enjoy the legal protections that should have been afforded to them from the start, but they’ve got people doing their damnedest to revoke that marriage and the protections that come with it. Also a sizable chunk of people trying to make it easier for others to discriminate against them as individuals as a matter of freedom of religious expression. Maybe I’m just being a bit of a downer though, those people and their laws are wildly unpopular, it’s a matter of time before those are gone too.
King Taco, thanks for making me go back and click the link. What a perfect piece of writing.
Although I live in Europe, I can also see a backlash against the progressive advances of the last decade. A general rise in homophobia, racism and bigotry across many countries.
That’s a little depressing to hear. The rise of racism in Europe I was well aware of as someone who follows football and global politics, I didn’t consider that homophobia and misogyny are rarely far behind. I suppose there just aren’t as many opportunities to be insulting in as simple a manner as throwing bananas at sporting events when it comes to homophobia. Everything I hear about UKIP or Golden Dawn tend to be about their racism first and foremost as well.
