Fanny Hill: Free Audiobook Version
It has come to my attention that thanks to LibriVox, the people who provide free public domain audiobooks recorded by volunteer readers, there are not one but two different complete recordings of John Cleland’s Fanny Hill: The Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure.
The first dates from 2006, runs to 9.5 hours, and is recorded by an assortment of volunteers who read different chapters. The second is from 2016 and features a single reader, who (to my ear) does a better job of bringing the somewhat archaic phrasings to life, while cutting about half an hour off the listening times. You may find these Internet Archive download links more convenient than the LibriVox ones:

I have a three hour “Books to Go” version told by Connie Foster, just titled Fanny Hill by John Cleland (1987) Buckingham Classics, Ltd.
It is labeled as “condensed”…
I must admit it was weird driving down the interstate on long trips into the next state, with it playing in my tape deck (instead of my usual rock and roll…).
Whiplash it was a photo of a vinyl platter from an old 45-RPM spoken-word reading of this work that set me on the search that resulted in this post. Was hoping to find a recording from the vintage set somewhere, but no.
