“Look At My Butt!”
We must assume, from her posture, from the proud look on her face, from the title of the book where this illustration appears, and most especially from the fact that the illustration is by Louis Malteste, that the young woman on the chair is attempting to show off some spanking welts under all those bustled-up petticoats:
The artwork is from Quinze Ans — Roman sur la discipline familiale suivi de quelques lettres sur les châtiments corporels dans l’éducation des jeunes filles et de Sonia ou la Belle Etudiante (1927). (Google Translate renders that title “Fifteen Years – Novel on family discipline followed by some letters on corporal punishment in the education of young girls and Sonia or the Beautiful Student”.)

Caning does seem to have been raised to a high art form by the British. I read one author’s account of his education involving regular canings, including one on his first day just to get him used to the idea. His classmates crowded around to admire how accurately it was done, every stroke on the same place as the others. Apparently this was highly preferable to a random assortment of sites up and down the back of the legs, the various reasons for which I’ll leave to others more learned in such things than I.
I have no problem with erotic spankings and I enjoy a lot of the fantasy erotic material about them but so much of the material surrounding historic use of corporal punishment in educational systems is crammed chock full of fucking idiotic random and pointless injustices of that sort that it makes my blood boil and utterly destroys the fun for me. Even leaving aside the whole beating on children who lacked the capacity to consent thing.
Interesting point in your response comment Bacchus. For many of us who suffered corporal punishment, granted it was surely at differing levels, that form of punishment often finally ceased at the time of our eventual reaching of the age of consent.
One has to wonder if the commonly offending parent or guardian had some fear of their victims reaching of an age of legal autonomy. Perhaps you more than most of us, might be able to speculate for your readership just how this stage of maturity might change the dynamics of the situation?
