The Naked Gunner
I’m sure there’s a genuine finest kind “no shit, there we were” military-bullshit pulp magazine story behind the naked lady on the anti-aircraft gun fumetti cover, but I don’t know what it is:
Artwork is from the cover of Guerra #6.

There’ve been a lot of supposedly true stories of gunners caught with their pants off – voluntarily or not – here, for example: https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/naked-gunner-rescue-rabaul-1944/ but they all involve male gunners.
Wee Jim, I guess you didn’t see my “A Genuine Naked War Hero” link at the bottom of the post?
Bacchus, I used to be a regular and kind of lost track. Came back today and saw this story which reminded me of the infrantry man in the desert, apparently he was in Afghanstan.

Nice! And, welcome back.
Apologies, Bacchus – it might even have been here I came across the story!
Oh, it’s not a problem, Wee Jim. But for some reason I have been seeing more people lately telling me about the stuff that I just linked to, revealing that my links are essentially invisible/useless. It even happens with links in the posts, leading me to think that people in general are getting more used to a “scrolling feed” style of information delivery and aren’t noticing, clicking, or interacting with links as much as they used to. It takes some getting used to but honestly speaking I think it’s just an evolution in how people process a flood of information and defend against demands for their attention and clicks, many of which demands are essentially hostile (advertising and reader-adverse traffic-farming such as blind or deceptive links and clickbait). At the end of the day I’m glad people are here and willing to look at what I’ve got to share; that’s a lot more sensible than getting grumpy if they don’t follow a link that I throw down.
I think we’re really used to FB/Twitter style feeds, with one link/story per post. And maybe not everyone’s coming here daily and noticing each story.
Yup!
