Brass Lesbians
This is something I saw on eBay many years ago. I thought then, and still think, that the artwork was unusually attractive:
What’s bizarre to me is that this artifact appears to be, and appears from the corrosion patterns to have been used as, an ashtray. Who really stubs out their cigarettes (cigars?) on pretty brass girls who are licking each other?

Um… misogynists? …homophobes?
Who really stubs out their cigarettes (cigars?) on pretty brass girls who are licking each other?
The Gentleman’s Club from the 30’s would. Then unsuspecting college students at a later time.
True, and perhaps something like that would have been more acceptable as a “useful object.” Hopefully not just something the so-called Gentlemen would find humorous.
I sincerely doubt that it’s necessary to be a homophobe or a misogynist in order to stub your cigarette out in the nearest ashtray just because it depicts lesbian sex. It’s a freakin’ ashtray for God’s sake, not Freudian dream analysis.
What would you do if you were smoking indoors and someone offered you that ashtray? Say, “Oh, no, I couldn’t possibly”?!
I doubt it.
I agree with you, sorta, but at the same time, I do think it requires a certain callousness toward art and beauty.
